The U.S. Adds 407 Product Categories to Steel and Aluminum Tariff List, Including Compressors, Pumps and More

It is reported that the United States has decided to include 407 product categories in its steel and aluminum tariff list, covering hundreds of products such as wind turbines and their components, mobile cranes, railway vehicles, furniture, compressors and pumps. The measure officially took effect on August 18.
According to CCTV News, on August 19 (local time), the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that it would add 407 product categories to the steel and aluminum tariff list, with an applicable tax rate of 50%. The Department of Commerce stated in a declaration that the newly added list covers a wide range, including hundreds of products such as wind turbines and their components, mobile cranes, railway vehicles, furniture, compressors and pumps.
From the perspective of the specific list content, compressor-related products include air compressors, compressors for refrigeration equipment (including air conditioners) with a power of no more than 1/4 hp, rotors for compressors of refrigeration equipment (including air conditioners), as well as casings for refrigeration and air-conditioning compressors, casings for mobile compressors, impeller covers and hubs.
Previously, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued an announcement stating that the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) had added 407 product codes to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS). These products will be subject to additional tariffs due to their steel and aluminum components. The announcement noted that the non-steel and non-aluminum parts of these products will be subject to the tariff rates imposed by President Trump on goods from specific countries. The expanded tariff list officially took effect on August 18.
